Powell Dobson Architects and Urbanists were commissioned by Redrow Homes as part of a multidisciplinary team, to prepare a masterplan for a 1220 house urban extension on the former Hewlett Packard estate in Bristol. The masterplan seeks to create a neighbourhood centre around the proposed Light Rail Transit (LRT) station in an effort to create a commercial ‘hub’ focused around the stop. The masterplan exploits this asset by congregating a school, retail and higher density housing around the LRT stop along with car parking and community facilities, so that access to public transport brings the footfall that these commercial need to be sustainable.
