The Urbanists and Powell Dobson Architects have won an important commission with Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council to improve the quality of buildings in Merthyr Tydfil and Treharris.
The Urbanists were appointed by Powys County Council to help them devise a regeneration strategy for the County. The key challenge facing the County was to devise a way of working which would enable the County Council to deliver regeneration across all of its services to a large rural county with a dispersed population.
The strategy, unique in Wales because it adopts a non-spatial approach to regeneration, established a series of Regeneration Priorities which would become core corporate priorities of the County Council. The Urbanists worked closely with Powys County Council to ensure that these priorities were shared, endorsed and adopted by their various stakeholders. The Strategy was adopted by the County Council in June 2011 and is now being implemented by the County Council and its partners.
