Frideswide Square, Oxford City Centre.
PDU were commissioned by Oxfordshire County Council to contribute to the development of initial design concepts for Frideswide Square in Oxford City Centre. We were brought onto the design team to assist with the development and presentation of three concept options which were to be used as the basis for stakeholder engagement. Each concept option is based on the principle of creating a strong gateway to Oxford within which vehicles travel at a slow but constant rate and the creation of a new public space which encourages longer dwell time for pedestrians. The initial options are currently under consideration by local stakeholders
Aberdare Town Centre Public Art.
PDU’s ongoing work with the regeneration team in RCTCBC on Aberdare town centre has been extended to include a short feasibility study to determine the most appropriate means of introducing public art into the town centre. This short commission will recommend the most appropriate locations for public art in Aberdare and outline what types of art might be most appropriate. Our role will also advise on the programme for how new pieces can be implemented in conjunction with other proposed regeneration activity in the town centre.
Aberystwyth Town Improvement Grant Guidelines.
As part of our role to assist Welsh Assembly Government on all urban design and architectural aspects of the projects within Aberystwyth Strategic Regeneration Area, PDU have prepared a set of design guidelines which will provide clarity for prospective applicants for Town Improvement Grant in Aberystwyth Town Centre. This is particularly challenging and prestigious commission given that the grant area sits within a Conservation Area that contains a rich townscape with many historic features and listed buildings. The process involved a detailed assessment of a sample of buildings in the centre and included recommendations on identifying priority areas for investment
