Barry Town Centre Public Realm Sketch Schemes

Powell Dobson Urbanists were appointed by the Vale of Glamorgan Council in March 2009 to prepare public realm sketch proposals for three significant locations in Barry town centre. These proposals will be developed in close cooperation with a number of stakeholders, including the Cardiff and Vale Coalition of Disabled People.

In recognition of the wider issues and opportunities that impact upon Barry town centre, the Urbanists and their sub-consultants will work closely with the client team to prepare a strategic framework of regeneration projects into which these public realm proposals will fit.

James Brown, Associate and project manager at Powell Dobson Urbanists said “We recognise just how important public realm improvements can be in helping to make a place more successful, but we are conscious that these improvements will only add real value when they form part of a package of wider measures.”

The Urbanists aim to bring design innovation to these public realm projects and set them in a rationale for wider investment in the town that helps to fund future interventions.
