Treorchy Town Centre

Powell Dobson Urbanists were commissioned by Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council in April 2008 to provide consultancy services for a Town Centre Study requiring a framework for future regeneration and development activity in Treorchy Town Centre and its immediate environs.  Despite a good range of facilities in the town centre, the town struggles to live up to its potential due to large amounts of traffic that pass through its main street.  A better integration of the town’s natural assets and a rethink of traffic priorities towards a more pedestrian friendly approach offer the chance to strengthen the town’s unique character and make it a distinctive and welcoming place within the Rhondda Valley.  The two underused industrial estates close to the centre offer the potential for the town as they could draw investment back into the town.
