One of the key projects to emerge from our 2007 Regeneration Strategy for Caerau, that we prepared for Bridgend County Borough Council (BCBC), was the revitalization of the “Tin Shops” site as a new “Village Green”.
In 2011 we were appointed by BCBC to prepare a vision and concept design for how the space could be improved.
Our initial design concept was based upon a series of tiered spaces as the foreground to extensively improved buildings. As a result of feedback from a public exhibition we revised our concept to make the space less susceptible to anti-social behavior. Our final design reflected the views of residents and the limited budget that BCBC were able to dedicate to the project.
The new Village Square opened in March 2012 and we were delighted that so much of the design vision is evident in the final scheme. The positive impact on the appearance of the area has been significant and feedback from local residents has been superb, in fact they like it so much they have nicknamed it “Ballamory”!
