The Urbanists were appointed to manage, co–ordinate, and advise on the entire planning process required for the restoration and re-use of the grade II listed CRI complex. The overall strategy to bring the complex into beneficial re-use required the scoping and co-ordination of a series of interlinked applications for listed building consent and planning permission covering conservation works, internal and external alterations, demolitions, extensions, plus access and landscape works.
The complicated site required a rigorous application management approach resulting in over 20 permissions being secured. A collaborative approach and consistent communication with the LPA was an essential requirement.
The work involved balancing the strict legislative requirements relating to works to listed buildings with the need to deliver this important project which would significantly improve the provision of local health care in Cardiff.
