Bron Afon appointed us to help them to work with the residents of two communities, Lower New Inn and St.Dials, to prepare a package of environmental improvements that would be attuned to local priorities and could be delivered within a set budget.
Our approach was to blend our technical skills with the local knowledge of residents to determine priorities for investment and demonstrate how these could be combined into a interlinked programme of improvements.
The warren-like network of paths amongst swathes of close mown grass and ‘back to front’ homes, created by the Radburn layout of both of these communities, meant that developing a cohesive and integrated strategy for improving each estate was extremely challenging.
Our approach was to identify, with local residents, priority elements of both places that had the potential to connect the whole neighbourhood together. Once these were identified we developed a pragmatic, but creative, process to prove how improvements could be configured and delivered.
The proposals have since been warmly received by the communities and Bron Afon and we look forward to the schemes being implemented.
